Foreign aid madness: Fury over ‘cover-up’ of how taxpayers’ money is spent

FRESH anger over Britain's bloated foreign aid budget erupted after it emerged the Government keeps official spending rules a closely guarded secret.

Guidance dictating the way billions of pounds of taxpayers’ cash is sent abroad remain confidential despite them drawn up to demonstrate “value for money”.

The farce has seen the Treasury and Department for International Development [DFID] devise a plan for the way cash is dished detailing governance, approval processes and financial management to ensure money is not frittered away.

But auditors revealed the powerful departments “do not plan to publish their guidance”, despite it containing “guiding principles” about how public money is used.

It means taxpayers remain unaware how their money props up hundreds of schemes funded by Official Development Assistance, which last year saw the UK hand out £13.3 billion.
